Description:
The Black Hawk Mountain Ash is a hardy selection of the European Mountain Ash that thrivesin moist locations on the borders of swamps and rocky hillsides. It is a compact tree with a short trunk with ascending spreading branches that form an narrow open round topped crown. The tree displays clumps of showy white flowers in early June that turn into bunches of red/orange berries that provide stunning fall and winter colours. The large berries are too much of a bite for small songbirds but are a favorite for waxwings and grosbeaks although the flavour is unpalatable for most human beings. The Black Hawk Mountain Ash prefers moist well drained soil and is often used to shade kitchen or living room windows because the window provides excellent bird watching opportunities in the winter months. The staining caused by the dropping berries make this tree unsuitable for shading decks and patios. The tree is available either as a single multiple stem depending on the look that is desired. |
