Description:
The Amur maple is native to northeastern from Mongolia to Japan and is named after the Amur River that separates Russia from Chinese Manchuria, where it grows in profusion. It is the most cold tolerant of all the maples and is grown as an ornamental plant in the northern regions of Europe and North America and as a bonsai plant in Japan. This small, densely compact, low branched tree noted for its exceptionally brilliant red fall color. The fragrant white flowers turn into clusters of bright red winged "helicopter" seeds that easily disperse in the wind. This is a relatively low maintenance tree, and should only be pruned in summer after the leaves have fully developed, as it may 'bleed' sap if pruned in late winter or early spring. It has no significant negative characteristics. The Amur maple is a versatile tree that can adapt to a wide range of soil and climatic conditions. It can be grown as a small single stem tree or a large multiple stem shrub. Transplants easily and adapts to a wide range of soils. Comes either as a single stem or clump (multiple stem) form |
