Description:
This tree reaches a height and width of seven feet by five feet and is hardy to zone three. A cross between the tart cherry and the Mongolian cherry produces a high sugar content which makes for excellent fresh eating; the fruit is large and dark red in color. They have soft skin and a more mild flavor. This is more of a shrub than any of the others sold at Mr.V's and are ready the second week in July. Crimson Passion Cherry features showy clusters of fragrant white flowers along the branches in mid spring. It has green foliage throughout the season. The glossy oval leaves turn yellow in fall. The dark red fruits are held in abundance in spectacular clusters in mid summer, which are excellent for cooking, baking and making jams and jellies. This is a self-pollinating variety, so it doesn't require a second plant nearby to set fruit. The smooth gray bark is not particularly outstanding. The crimson passion is the sweetest of the cherries but is not
as heavy a producer as the other eating cherries. |
