Description:
Golden Pfitzer Juniper sports both gold colored new and old foliage, giving the plant its common name. Golden Pfitzer Juniper is a fast-growing gold evergreen conifer shrub that can reach 2' in height with a width of 4’ or more. It has main branches which emerge at a 45 degree angle to the ground. Branch tips often droop. The older leaves are scale-like while the new ones are awl-shaped (shaped like needles). The foliage is pungent when crushed. This is a male plant so that no berries will form. This outstanding ornamental grows well even under difficult conditions such as those at urban sites. Grows best in full sun, but will tolerate some shade. It does best on well-drained soils. It is considered drought tolerant once it is established. Fascinating Foliage Facts The Golden Pfitzer Juniper is a hybrid between Juniperus chinensis and Juniperus sabina, and is found in in the wild in northwestern China where the two species meet. |
