Description:
Like most pines, the Jack Pine grow best in rich well drained soils although in the wild it can often be found growing on rocky or very sandy sites.
Although the Jack Pine often grows a great looking conical open crown of ascending and arching branches with a tapered trunk when it grows in open areas, the variablilty of its growth habit does not suit it particularly well as a shelter belt tree. It is, however, often planted as a specimen tree, especially if a native planting is desired.
