Description:
The Red Pine is native to eastern Canada. It has a straight trunk with a narrow tapir and is the fastest growing pine that we sell - exceeding four feet of growth per year. The rapid growth can sometimes give the tree a ladder-like effect as the yearly whorls are so far apart although annual pruning can bush the tree up. The root system, while rarely developing a tap-root is moderately deep and wide spreading making them ideal as a back row in shelterbelt. As all pines, it prefers well drained loam but will do well on gravelly glacial till and sand. It will grow up to 75 feet with a two foot diameter trunk. |
