Description:
The Red Pine has a straight trunk with a narrow tapir and is the fastest growing pine that we have; exceeding four feet of growth per year. The rapid growth can sometimes give the tree a ladder-like effect as the yearly whorls are so far apart although annual pruning can bush the tree up. The root system, while rarely developing a tap-root is moderately deep and wide spreading making them ideal as a shelter belt tree. As all pines, it prefers well drained loam but will do well on gravelly glacial till and sand. It will grow up to 80 feet with a two foot diameter trunk. |
